Always educate yourself before you medicate yourself! I will say that I had two totally different pit experiences based on dosage and the doctor's willingness to let nature take over. With both, labor was induced because my bp was elevated slightly (and the first time because I needed to have a hospital delivery vs home birth; second time because the doctor wanted to be home by dinner). The first time, it was slowly introduced and as soon as contractions were regular it was stopped. That was a good experience and not more intense or painful than other labors. Second time was the last time I would ever consent to a hospital delivery. He upped the dosage ever 30 mins or so. Neither time was I taking any pain meds. Neither time would I allow them to make me stay in the bed. I still blame pitocin for some of the challenges pit induced child #2 had. It was a nightmare. Natural births are a normal part of life. Hospital births are totally different. Only when you've experienced both can you appreciate a natural unmedicated birth.
