A 20-year-old woman has died after falling from a window of a hotel room on New Year’s Eve.

Chen, a sophomore from Wuhu Institute of Technology in central China’s Anhui Province, was reportedly celebrating the New Year’s Eve with two men who were her juniors at the same university.

Following Chen’s death, surveillance camera footage has been released, which traces her activities before the accident. According to the footage, she entered a club with the two men at around 9:1 ... 0pm and was spotted drinking.

“She came to our table to ask for a lighter and offered us a toast as gratitude. I felt she was already drunken and in daze,” said a man who had met the woman in the club.

Several days later, surveillance camera footage from the hotel was also released.

In the video, one of the two men who accompanied Chen that night was seen carrying her as they entered the hotel lobby at 1:34 a.m. The other man was in front of them, carrying some clothes.

Later, at around 2:49 am, all of them entered the hotel room.

According to reports, the accident occurred at around 5:05 a.m. It was when the two men, only in their underwear, rushed out of the room to the reception asking to call police. They said “she jumped out” from the window.

The local police immediately launched an investigation.

More than 40 DNA samples were collected from the room and police have ruled out any possibilities of sexual assault following the tests.

The two men said they had nothing to do with the accident. They said while one of them was sleeping, the other tried to grab Chen as he noticed she was about to fall from the window, but it was too late.

After interviewing Chen’s several friends and family members, police also ruled out suicide as a possibility as she was reportedly an extrovert and an optimistic person. Chen showed no sign of unusual behavior before the incident.

After the autopsy report and investigation that included the two men, police have also dismissed any possibilities of intentional injuries.

The authorities have termed Chen’s death as an “accidental fall incident.”
